Is Attitude Sustainable? What EWG Verified Covers

Attitude’s EWG VERIFIED seal is real and independently earned, but it doesn’t cover the whole catalog — it’s concentrated in specific personal-care lines. On the brand’s own EWG page, checked today, the products carrying the seal are named directly: Oceanly, leaves bar, Super leaves, oatmeal sensitive natural care, Blooming belly, little leaves, and baby leaves. That’s a beauty and personal-care list. Household items like the all-purpose cleaner and laundry detergent aren’t named on that page, so treat the badge as a per-product fact you check, not a brand-wide guarantee.

The same per-product check applies to stain removers — see our plant-based stain remover guide for which options are actually plant-based front to back.

What EWG VERIFIED requires

EWG VERIFIED is the Environmental Working Group’s strictest mark, separate from the general hazard scores in its Skin Deep database. Getting it requires submitting ingredient and sourcing information for independent review against EWG’s restricted-ingredient list, not just self-reporting a formula. Attitude’s own site frames its participation as “10,000+ banned ingredients,” the brand’s own summary of the standard it’s submitting products against, and says its R&D team bases ingredient selection on EWG’s published assessments. That’s a real third-party check, distinct from a brand simply saying its products are clean.

Attitude also describes the process as requiring lab testing on finished products, not just raw ingredients, to confirm nothing on EWG’s concern list turns up in the final formula. That’s a meaningful distinction: an ingredient list can look clean on paper and still pick up contaminants during manufacturing, so testing the finished product closes a gap that ingredient disclosure alone doesn’t.

Which products carry it

The named EWG VERIFIED lines are all beauty and personal-care: Oceanly (solid personal care), leaves bar, Super leaves, an oatmeal sensitive-skin line, Blooming belly (pregnancy-safe skin care), little leaves, and baby leaves. Those products display the seal directly and register as low-hazard in EWG’s Skin Deep database. Attitude’s home-cleaning and laundry lines weren’t named on that list as of this check, which doesn’t mean those formulas are worse, only that the specific third-party review this article can point to applies to the personal-care side of the catalog. If a household product matters to your decision, check that item’s own page for the seal rather than assuming it carries over.

The packaging split: same product, two formats

Attitude sells its aluminum-free deodorant in parallel plastic and plastic-free versions of the same scent at the same price, listed side by side on the product page as of this check, the same pattern this site has flagged in other brands’ catalogs: buying the brand name doesn’t automatically get you the lower-plastic option, you have to select the specific listing. The site also runs a standing “Plastic Free” shop-by-need filter across categories, and a refills and bulk-cleaning-supplies line the company says cuts up to 80% of the plastic against buying full-size bottles repeatedly.

That refill math is the strongest packaging argument in Attitude’s favor: an 80% reduction is a specific, checkable number rather than a vague “eco-friendly” claim, and it applies to a real behavior (refilling a bottle) rather than a one-time purchase decision. It only pays off if you actually buy the refill instead of the full bottle each time, which is on the shopper, not the brand.

Where it’s made

Attitude is headquartered in Montreal and runs a production site in Sherbrooke, Quebec, both confirmed on the company’s own careers listings. In-house manufacturing means Attitude controls its own supply chain rather than contracting formulation out, which the company cites as part of its EWG-review process; it also means North American buyers aren’t dealing with the transoceanic shipping footprint that comes up with brands manufactured overseas. This article did not find a current, dated carbon-neutral or reforestation claim on Attitude’s site to independently verify, so that claim from the original review was dropped rather than repeated without a source.

Some of Attitude’s makeup is marketed as vegan, and the brand’s shop-by-need filters let you narrow to sensitive-skin or baby-safe formulas directly, which is useful if either of those is the actual reason you’re comparing brands rather than a general sustainability score. None of that is specific to plastic reduction, though, so treat it as a separate axis from the packaging question above rather than folding it into one combined verdict.

What to check before buying

If EWG VERIFIED is the reason you’re considering Attitude, confirm the specific product page carries the seal, especially outside the named beauty lines. If plastic reduction is the goal, buy into the refill and bulk formats rather than one-off bottles, and check whether the item you want is offered in the plastic-free listing before defaulting to the standard one. Attitude’s formulas and ingredient disclosure hold up well against the rest of our non-toxic cleaning roundup; the packaging story depends on which listing you actually click. Neither the certification nor the refill program is evidence about the other — a certified deodorant can still ship in the plastic version, and a plastic-free cleaner isn’t automatically EWG VERIFIED, so check the specific product for the specific claim you care about.
