Choose the 2-inch topper when your mattress needs a modest comfort change. Choose 3 inches when the surface feels clearly too firm and you want a bigger change. Medium is Avocado’s firmer Dunlop-latex option; Plush is the softer Talalay-latex option. Skip both if the mattress already sags or no longer supports you—the topper changes the surface, not the support underneath it.

Which Avocado topper should you choose?
| Option | Latex | Choose it when | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2-inch Medium | GOLS-certified organic Dunlop | You want the smallest change in feel and bed height | It makes the least dramatic adjustment |
| 3-inch Medium | GOLS-certified organic Dunlop | You want more cushioning but prefer Avocado’s firmer option | More height and weight to handle |
| 2-inch Plush | FSC-certified Talalay | You want a softer surface without adding the full 3 inches | Softer than either Medium option |
| 3-inch Plush | FSC-certified Talalay | You want the largest change in surface feel | The most added height and weight |
Check the mattress before choosing a topper
- The mattress feels supportive but too firm: a topper may be a reasonable fix. Start with Plush if softness is the priority.
- The mattress feels close to right: start with 2-inch Medium. It adds less height and makes the smallest change.
- The mattress has a visible dip or sag: do not expect a topper to correct it. Avocado says its topper will not fix a sagging mattress.
- The bed is already difficult to get into: measure the finished bed height before adding 2 or 3 inches.
Medium vs. Plush
Avocado ties Medium to organic Dunlop latex and Plush to Talalay latex. Its own guidance presents Medium as the firmer route and Plush as the softer route. That makes the first decision fairly simple: choose Medium when you want cushioning without moving as far toward softness; choose Plush when the existing mattress surface feels too firm.
Do not use the label alone to predict exactly how the bed will feel. The mattress underneath still supplies most of the support, and its firmness, age, and construction will affect the result.

2 inches vs. 3 inches
Two inches is easier to live with when you want a smaller adjustment, have deep sheets that only barely fit, or do not want to make the bed much taller. Three inches makes a larger surface change, but it also adds more bulk when rotating, setting up, or returning the topper.
Measure from the floor to the top of the current mattress, then add the topper height. Also check the fitted-sheet pocket depth. Those two measurements are more useful than choosing 3 inches simply because it sounds more comfortable.
Materials and certifications
The Eco Organic Mattress Topper is listed as vegan and wool-free. Avocado identifies the Medium latex as GOLS-certified organic Dunlop and the Plush latex as FSC-certified Talalay. The current product page also displays GOTS, MADE SAFE, GREENGUARD Gold, and EWG Verified claims for the topper line.
Those same certification programs show up on pillows too; our non-toxic pillow guide compares fill types and certification scope across brands.
Those labels answer different questions. A latex-material certification, an emissions certification, and a finished-product certification are not substitutes for one another, and none predicts whether Medium or Plush will feel right on your mattress.
Those same three certification names — GOLS, GOTS, and GREENGUARD Gold — show up on toppers from other brands too. The organic mattress topper guide breaks down what each one actually verifies, and when a topper can’t fix a mattress that’s already sagging.

Trial, returns, and setup
Avocado’s help information lists a 100-night sleep trial and says to keep the topper for at least 30 days before beginning a return. Check the current terms at checkout because policies and promotions can change.
Setup is easy to overlook. Larger latex toppers are awkward to move, and the 3-inch versions add more weight than the 2-inch versions. Check the published weight before delivery, keep the packaging until the topper is settled, and make sure your sheets still fit the combined mattress-and-topper height.
When the topper makes sense
- Your mattress is still level and supportive, but its surface feels too firm.
- You want latex rather than a memory-foam topper.
- You want a wool-free Avocado option with published material and emissions certifications.
- You can accommodate the extra height and the return logistics of a large latex topper.
When to replace the mattress instead
A topper is a surface-comfort purchase. If the mattress dips, sags, or no longer keeps your body supported, compare replacement options instead. The Avocado mattress review, Avocado vs. Naturepedic comparison, and organic mattress guide cover that decision.
Before you order
- Confirm the mattress is still supportive.
- Choose Medium or Plush based on the surface change you want.
- Measure the finished bed height and fitted-sheet depth before choosing 2 or 3 inches.
- Read the current trial and return terms.
- Plan how you will move and repack the topper if the fit is wrong.
