Bottom line: PFAS-free, PTFE-free, and PFOA-free cookware claims are not interchangeable. This guide compares the exact wording used for 19 current U.S. cookware lines with the public evidence behind each claim.
Each entry draws from manufacturer disclosures, California AB 1200 records, public laboratory dashboards, regulatory guidance, and court records where relevant. Open a product record to see the exact model, coating version, component scope, sources, and remaining evidence gaps.
Evidence guide version 1.0 · 19 product records · United States · Evidence checked August 21, 2026
What the Claims Actually Mean
A PFOA-free claim names one substance. A PTFE-free claim excludes PTFE within the stated product or component scope. A PFAS-free claim uses class-wide language, but you still need the exact product, coating generation, component, and evidence. “Non-toxic” is broader still: by itself, it does not identify a chemical, sample, test method, or reporting limit.

The legal and regulatory context matters too. The FTC Green Guides’ free-of guidance explains why an unqualified absence claim can be misleading. California AB 1200 addresses intentionally added chemicals and certain cookware claims, but its disclosures are not complete ingredient lists or non-detect laboratory certificates. The FDA’s food-contact overview also makes clear that composition and exposure are different questions.
How to Read the Evidence
- Exact version prevents a current coating claim from being applied to an older pan with the same brand name.
- Recorded claim preserves the manufacturer’s scope: product, coating, cooking surface, or a named chemical only.
- Claim status rates how well the available record supports that claim. It does not rate overall product safety.
- Evidence basis separates a laboratory-hosted report, regulatory disclosure, statute, court record, and manufacturer documentation.
- Limitation names the missing SKU, lot, method, analyte panel, reporting limit, component scope, or version match.

How source links work
Regulator, statute, certification-registry, laboratory-hosted, and court records link directly to the primary record. Manufacturer disclosures are named and dated inside each entry. If there is no verified affiliate deep link to that exact manufacturer page, the citation is intentionally not clickable. Retailer links sit in a separate shopping area, are marked as affiliate links, and do not affect the order or status of a record.
PFAS-Free Cookware Claims: Evidence by Product
Use the summary for a quick scan, then open the matching evidence record for its sources and scope. A non-detect result applies to the submitted sample, method, analytes, and reporting threshold. A manufacturer disclosure documents what the company says; it does not become independent testing simply because a laboratory is named.

The evidence records below tie each product-specific claim to the cited support available for the exact version shown. Read the component scope and evidence gaps before comparing products.

What the First 19 Records Show
- PFOA-free is a narrow claim. OXO’s Ceramic Professional wording is a useful example: the page names PFOA, lead, and cadmium, but that does not establish a class-wide PFAS result.
- A laboratory dashboard can still leave important gaps. Caraway and Our Place publish useful product-class results through Light Labs, but the public records do not expose a retail SKU or lot match and numerical PFAS reporting limits.
- Regulatory disclosures answer a different question. An AB 1200 record concerns intentionally added listed chemicals within its defined scope. It is not a complete composition report and is not equivalent to a comprehensive non-detect test.
- Version matching can change the conclusion. Current HexClad TerraBond claims cannot be back-applied to settlement-era purchases, and Made In’s public test date does not conclusively identify the later CeramiClad 2.0 formulation.
- Presence disclosures are valuable controls. SCANPAN, Le Creuset Toughened Non-stick PRO, and All-Clad HA1 Expert identify PFAS or PTFE in their nonstick systems. That makes clear why PFOA-free and PFAS-free cannot be used interchangeably.
How to Use These Records When Shopping
Start with the exact model or line you are considering. Check whether the claim covers the whole product or only the food-contact coating. Then read the limitation before using the separate retailer link. If the model name, coating generation, or region does not match, treat the record as context—not proof about the pan in front of you.
If you would rather compare cookware construction and everyday trade-offs, use the cookware brand guide or the cast iron vs. ceramic comparison. The existing Caraway analysis and Our Place analysis cover those brands in more depth. For broader context, read the site’s PFAS explainer.
Updates and Corrections
Every record carries its own checked date and stable anchor. A coating or formulation change should create a new versioned record rather than silently rewriting the old one. If a public report disappears, a manufacturer changes its wording, or a model is replaced, the affected status should be re-reviewed and the older evidence retained as historical context.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is PFOA-free the same as PFAS-free?
No. PFOA is one PFAS. A PFOA-free claim does not tell you whether PTFE or another PFAS is intentionally used.
Does PFAS-free mean a cookware product is safe?
No. “PFAS-free” is one composition claim with a stated or implied scope. It does not establish an overall safety verdict for the product.
Does an AB 1200 disclosure prove that a pan has no PFAS?
No. The disclosure addresses intentionally added chemicals from designated lists within the law’s scope. It is not a comprehensive analytical test of every component.
Why are some manufacturer disclosures named but not linked?
The evidence panel names the disclosure and its checked date. A direct manufacturer link is included only when an exact approved affiliate deep link reaches that same disclosure page. Regulatory, laboratory-hosted, certification-registry, and court records remain directly linked.
